5 good reasons to retire to Scottsdale before Christmas!
Here at our senior living community in Scottsdale, our Residents love to get out and about, whether it’s lunch out at a local restaurant or a shopping trip to favourite local stores.
We also make the most of the cultural attractions in Phoenix. As you might expect in the USA’s fifth largest city, there is always a show to enjoy or a concert to attend. However, for some seniors, a trip out to the theatre can be difficult due to mobility difficulties, or concerns about getting back home late at night.
Enter our heroes stage left, Benny and Ben! Benny provides safe, reliable and friendly transport for our Residents during weekdays, ensuring they travel in style and comfort on all our organised outings. At the weekends, our other driver Ben takes the wheel, providing transportation to church every Sunday, and a highly popular monthly Sunday afternoon scenic drive!
So, where might Benny and Ben be driving this Fall? If you love your cultural events, but hate the driving back part, this list might just be enough to tempt you to retire to Scottsdale….
#1 Beautiful Ballet
Ballet Arizona performs at the Symphony Hall in Phoenix, just as 35 minute drive from our community. This Fall, they are presenting two of the greatest ballets in the repertoire, “Swan Lake” in October, and “The Nutcracker” over Christmas. The Phoenix Ballet are also presenting “The Nutcracker” at the orpheum Theatre in Phoenix, so we really are spoiled for choice!
#2 Amazing Opera
Arizona Opera are remarkably innovative, from their Story of Opera in Wine event to “Hercules Vs Vampires”, a show combining the live performance of a brand new score with orchestra and singers, synchronized with the 1961 cult classic film, “Hercules in the Haunted World”! If that is just a little too ‘out there’ for some of us, we’ll probably stick with Puccini’s ‘shabby little shocker’, “Tosca.”
#3 Cracking Concerts
The Phoenix Symphony Orchestra under conductor Tito Muñoz will perform some wonderful music in their 2017-18 season. Highlights include Stravinsky’s score for the ballet “Rite of Spring”, and Dvorák’s Seventh Symphony coupled with Grieg’s iconic Piano Concerto. We’ve already booked our tickets for the Broadway Celebration of classic musical by Bernstein and Robbins in October!
#4 Local Theatre
We also support our local theatre groups and arts centre here in Scottsdale and surrounding areas. We enjoy Desert Stages Theatre that performs at Scottsdale’s Fashion Square, and gives young actors a chance to shine! This Fall, the talented troupe will be performing the irrepressible musical “Hairspray” (yes, I can hear the bells too!).
#5 What our Residents want to see!
Every month, we hold a special meeting where our Residents can discuss what they would like to see on our events calendar. So far, their ‘must-see’ list includes:
- Russian Round Up with the North Valley Symphony Orchestra
- A Broadway Celebration at Phoenix Symphony Hall (see above)
- A Tale of Christmas Spirit the Herberger Lunch Time Theater
- Holiday Pops with the North Valley Symphony Orchestra
- Christmas with the Duttons @ The Dutton Family Theater in Mesa (a real holiday favourite around these parts!)
